CorningScientific Center in Helsinki operates as a critical part of the Modeling & ComputingTechnologies group that services Cornings global RD&E organization. Wework closely with experimentalist partners around the globe to apply modelingcapabilities to increase the pace of Cornings innovation in addition tocollaborating internally with business and across Research, Development,Engineering, and commercial technology.

As an intern, you will work closely with adedicated team of over 40 scientists based at our office, Helsinki/Salmisaari.Together, you will support our global customers, from laboratories toproduction facilities, by innovating and optimizing our products and processes.

Scope of the Position:

We are seeking an enthusiastic intern to join ourresearch team, which focuses on Gorilla Glass. The current internship positionis open to explore glass fracture in system and component level tests throughmodeling. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-onexperience in a cutting-edge research environment, contributing to advancementsin glass technology and its applications. If you are passionate about solid andfracture mechanics and eager to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you toapply.

As a part of the modeling team, you will:

Study and simulate device drop test;

Investigate the fundamentals of glass strengthtests and simulate through modeling to explore specifics of durable glassbehavior;

Analyze data, interpret and communicate the resultsto project leader.

Education andExperience:

BS or MS student in Solid Mechanics.

Required Skills:

Basic knowledge in Solid Mechanics;

Experience in finite element software: Ansys orLS-DYNA;

English level sufficient for comfortable communication (workinglanguage is English)

Desired Skills:

Basic knowledgein Fracture Mechanics;

Programmingexperience using Matlab, Python, APDL scripting (Ansys).

TheCorning Scientific Center internship is paid and exceeds the minimumsalarydefined by the universities. The internship typically lasts 3months and generally starts in June. However, the exact start date is flexibleand can be discussed with the hiring team.
