Join Our Research Team at the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service!

We are looking for a Bioinformatician for a one-year full-time fixed-term position in research project in transplantation genomics funded by the Sigrid Juselius Foundation. The project has an option for three-year funding. The position is ideal for a fresh PhD interested in a post-doctoral position in bioinformatics but is equally suitable for a doctoral researcher or a project researcher with a masters degree.

Key responsibilities:

– Conduct research in using large genomics data such as FinnGen and UK Biobank

– Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results

– Collaborate with cross-functional teams and clinicians to advance research projects

– Present findings in conferences and publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals

– Keep updated with the latest research and integrate it into ongoing projects

Qualifications

– PhD or MSc in computer science, statistics or bioinformatics, or in biosciences with relevant experience

– Proven track record of research excellence and publications

– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

– Proficiency in R or Python

– Good communication and teamwork abilities

The salary is based on the contract salary system of the Blood Service. This position is placed in levels 14. The salary is the minimum salary 28163553 euros + 0-40 % depending on the person’s skills, experience and the special characteristics of the position.

The Finnish Red Cross Blood Service provides hospitals with safe and effective blood products and laboratory services needed for patient care. Our services comprise recruiting blood donors, organising blood donation, collecting blood and testing the donated blood. The Blood Service provides Finnish hospitals with various blood products for treating patients. We also offer hospitals laboratory services, such as blood group testing and investigations related to organ transplantation and blood coagulation. We also operate a Stem Cell Registry and The Blood Service Biobank. The Blood Service performs active scientific research. We want to increase biomedical knowledge on our areas of expertise.

The Blood Service is a non-profit organization. Our annual budget is approximately 60 million euros and we employ approximately 500 people.
