Ritchie Bros, the worlds largest auctioneer of commercial assets and vehicles, is looking for multiple Staff Engineers to join their forces!

Ritchie Bros is in a rapid growth phase and on the path to transforming and modernizing their Rbauction website and its technical architecture. They are growing their highly skilled technical team in Helsinki and this is where your input and skills will be needed!

What will you be doing?

As a Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for technical and architectural leadership across Product Engineering teams within the web domains. Youll lead the implementation of the full-stack web experience and be responsible for all development practices with the web and services platform. Meanwhile, you will also continue to be hands-on technically and contribute to the development at the code level. Youll champion code and architectural quality, implementing strategies to safely and reliably make changes to production systems frequently and sustainably.

Youll work closely with Ritchie Bros UX/UI department, representing the technical vision for the products. Youll also collaborate with designers, product managers, developers, and other leaders throughout the business to deliver compelling and efficient tools/products. Youll bring a proactive attitude about risk, working to identify and resolve performance and scalability issues with the support of others in Product Engineering. Youll also be responsible for guiding and training a team of developers partnering with Engineering Managers and Tech leads on annual performance reviews, as well as hiring new talents when needed.

More specifically, your tasks will include the following:
– Being accountable for working with and across Product Teams to develop a sustainable, performant, and well-designed suite of products that meet RB Global technical standards
– Drive the adoption of designs and assist teams in meeting technical and business goals
– Develop and publish new technical standards across the organization and drive the adoption of those standards
– Build skillsets within the team through partnership with Engineering Enablement teams and ensure team members have the skills and tools necessary to achieve their team mission
– Taking ownership of the code quality and technical solutions to ensure products can be sustainably operated and scaled
– Managing development efforts required to fulfill product feature requests on time

We hope you have:

– Relevant degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or equivalent
– Several years of experience in software development, focusing on scalable and performant web solutions with a fullstack approach
– Capability to set engineering and architectural direction across a specific domain of an organization
– Solid technical background in some of the above mentioned technologies, e.g. Java and Spring Boot backend and/or JavaScript-based frontend frameworks (such as Next.js and React)
– Supportive approach to leadership with a willingness to guide and mentor others, combined with an interest in hands-on coding
– Strong communication skills combined with an ability to work in a multicultural team
– Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English.

We consider as an advantage:

– Prior experience in staff-level engineering roles or architectural leadership

Practicalities:

In this full-time and permanent position, you will be employed directly by Ritchie Bros. The start time in the role is as soon as possible. Ritchie Bros has an office in the heart of Helsinki, and we hope you are willing to visit the Helsinki office a couple of days per week to meet your team and colleagues. As you will be working with the US-based teams and projects, we hope you have the flexibility to participate in meetings at around 5-7 pm Finnish time when needed. The base salary in this position is approximately 6000 €/month depending on your experience and will be negotiated individually
