LUT University’s Research Services is hiring four grant writers.

We are seeking to fill the following four positions in support of LUT’s research fields:

– Grant writer to promote LUT’s competitiveness in obtaining international research funding and to prepare EU and international grant proposals in particular
– Grant writer to support multidisciplinary research on electric mobility in collaboration with the Electric Mobility Research Center (EMRC)
– Grant writer to promote research and piloting involving the bioeconomy, biomaterials, and the forest industry value chain together with forest industry actors and companies in the Lappeenranta area and with experts in the biomaterials competence centre being built in Lappeenranta
– Grant writer to help secure top-tier national research funding, such as Centre of Excellence funding by the Research Council of Finland, and to prepare grant proposals to the Research Council of Finland

The jobs entail helping LUT University’s researchers apply for research funding successfully. The work involves taking part in the preparation and writing of grant proposals together with researchers or research groups. In addition, tasks may include looking for and communicating about suitable funding opportunities, advising researchers in questions related to grant proposals, maintaining contacts with partners, and providing training in grant writing.

What you will do

– Research and gather relevant information about the research idea: carry out internal research using a variety of sources, including peer-reviewed ones, gather internal data to provide content for proposals, and build an extensive knowledge base and skill set for yourself
– Write proposals and review those written by others for accuracy and completeness
– Collaborate and network with researchers to create a winning proposal strategy
– Create and utilise templates to obtain input for technical aspects of proposals
– Ensure the timely submission of proposals
– Conduct post-proposal follow-up with researchers
– Work with other grant writers and the research team to guide high-quality proposals through the entire development process: project design and development, document preparation, and submission

What we expect

– Knowledge of the Horizon Europe programme and success in obtaining Horizon funding / Knowledge of the research funding instruments of the Research Council of Finland and success in obtaining research funding from the Research Council of Finland
– Good communication and teamwork skills
– Excellent English skills
– An applicable master’s degree

Fluency in English and good interpersonal skills are essential for success in these positions. We value initiative, flexibility, service-mindedness, determination, and a solution-focused approach to work. A doctoral degree in artificial intelligence, ICT, electrical engineering, energy, the environment and sustainability, chemistry, or green technology, prior experience in the Horizon Europe programme, and successful grant proposals in one or more of the following fields are considered an advantage:

– manufacturing
– raw materials
– key enabling technologies: AI, HPC, cybersecurity

The work starts in spring 2025; the start date is negotiable. The employment relationships are permanent and full-time. The positions start with a six-month trial period.

The jobs are based in either Lappeenranta or Lahti and require some travel. Partial remote work is possible.

The pay is determined by the university salary system and its pay scale for expert and support staff. The requirement level is 10 (EUR 3,707 / month). In addition, the pay includes a personal salary element. Starter salaries for equivalent positions usually range between EUR 3,800 and 4,200 a month.
